This change allows Technology Solutions to retire outdated authentication systems, improve the security of campus systems, and supports the university’s efforts to shift to a sustainable voice communication system.

After March 15th, 2024, Asterisk will be decommissioned, and messages will not be able to be retrieved. Any lines that are still set up to route to Asterisk will have voicemail disabled.
Most VoIP users (Cisco phones or Jabber softphones) are already using Cisco Unity voicemail, and will not have to take action. VoIP users are encouraged to check if they may still be using Asterisk, however, so that they have time to back up any voicemails you need to save, and request a new Unity mailbox. An email communication is being sent to Asterisk users.
How do I know if I am using Asterisk? Heading link
If you access your voicemail online via the Cisco Personal Communications Assistant (https://unityw1.voip.uic.edu/ciscopca/) or by dialing 4000, you are already using Unity voicemail, and will not be affected by these changes. An email communication is being sent to Asterisk users.
If you access your voicemail online at voicemail.uic.edu, or by dialing 2222 from your campus phone, your voicemail is hosted on Asterisk, and if it isn’t migrated to Unity by March 15th, 2024, they will cease to exist.
