Beware of Pension Scams and Deceptive Solicitations

Be advised that staff at UIC have reported numerous suspicious emails pertaining to a solicitation for pension management services. While not all these emails are harmful, such as phishing email, some of the pension management solicitation emails use deceptive language implying that they have a formal relationship with the University of Illinois. In the two examples listed below at the bottom they both say they are not affiliated with the school or SURS.
Here are the kinds of things you CAN expect from an authentic email from SURS
- Legitimate email from the University will be sent from System HR Services SystemHRComm@uillinois.edu
- Employees who are within 4 years of retirement eligibility may attend a confidential SURS counseling appointment once every 12 months
- Any employe can contact SURS at 217-378-8800 or 800-275-7877 with questions or visit https://surs.org/ to learn more about their SURS retirement benefits
If you have any questions about your pension plan, you should contact SURS directly.
