Digital Accessibility Services

The University of Illinois Chicago is committed to ensuring that our IT resources, such as websites, web applications, teaching and learning technologies, digital content and other electronic platforms and communications, can be used by all community members and provides the services below to support digital accessibility.

Technology Solutions currently provides four essential Digital Accessibility Services, accessible to anyone affiliated with UIC.

Digital Accessibility Consultations

  • Provide recommendations, technical details, and general guidance on the necessary steps to ensure digital accessibility.
  • Provide prioritized accessibility evaluation notes or reports that identify specific areas requiring improvement in order of importance.
  • Suggest relevant resources for accessibility remediation to assist in addressing any accessibility issues.

Digital Accessibility Reporting

  • Technology Solutions utilizes the Accessibility Evaluation System by Deque, Axe Monitor providing comprehensive reports in line with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.
  • Once the request is submitted, the UIC Deque Administrator will share the accessibility report, granting you access to Deque University or the Deque Axe Developer Tool, depending on your request type.

Accessibility Exception Review

  • Clients adopting inaccessible technology must submit a request to initiate the Digital Accessibility Exception Process using the Accessibility Exception Request Form.
  • The Accessibility Exception process does not waive the responsibility to provide the same information and content to people with disabilities
  • Accessibility Exception Requests must be accompanied by a plan for equally effective alternative access or a rationale for why such a plan is not possible.

Accessibility Compliance

  • The UIC community is empowered to disclose and report any accessibility problems in web content, electronic documents, or University IT devices so that Technology Solutions can promptly investigate and remediate the issue.
