Upcoming changes to Duo 2FA Authentication methods enhance security

Starting June 12th, 2023, the option for receiving a phone call for authenticating with Duo 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) will be turned off. Duo 2FA users will no longer be able to use the “Call Me” option. All other options (push notifications, SMS text messages, mobile passcode or a physical token) will remain available.

If you use the "Call Me" option currently, you must configure your Duo settings to an alternate authentication method prior to the change to guarantee uninterrupted access to University websites and resources.

On June 12th, the University System will turn off the option for receiving a phone call for authenticating with Duo 2-Factor Authentication (2FA). All other options (push notifications, SMS text messages, mobile passcode or a physical token) will remain available

Why is this happening? Heading link

To better protect the community against phishing attempts and other malicious attacks, the University System is disabling the “Call Me” feature. While the primary purpose of this change is to enhance cybersecurity and protect university data, the “Call Me” feature is also the least used authentication method, and disabling this option presents a cost savings opportunity for the University.

If you use the “Call Me” option as your primary means of 2-Factor Authentication, you will need update your preferences and use another option (push, or passcode/token, etc.) before June 12th, 2023.

Due to the end-to-end encryption and stability of the Duo Mobile app, we strongly recommend the “Push” option.

You must ensure your Duo settings are correct before this change happens to guarantee uninterrupted access to University websites and resources. To review and update your Duo 2FA preferences, please review How can I change the “Call me” Duo 2FA authentication method?
