UIC has formed a committee to gather and evaluate the University’s survey platform needs and identify the most appropriate vendor solution to fulfill those requirements. It is widely known that Qualtrics is the preferred questionnaire tool for a large portion of the UIC community, and its license price has increased by over 100% in the last two years. The committee is taking a systematic approach in assessing campus needs, evaluating current and future solutions, and determining the impact of a potential migration away from Qualtrics. You can find the list of committee members below.

Technology Solutions (formerly ACCC) invited community stakeholders to attend demos of competing products in response to imminent and significant increase in Qualtrics’ licensing cost. We heard concerns from our community about the adverse impact of a move away from Qualtrics on research activity. We want to assure our community that Technology Solutions does not have an immediate sunset date for Qualtrics. The current efforts are exploratory in nature. We plan on having Qualtrics available at least until June 2021, pending the results of the efforts listed below.

IT Leadership Council’s Research Committee has proposed setting up a preliminary working group with members from several units on campus (e.g. Technology Solutions, Library, IRB, CCTS, IHRP, LAS, and others). This group will be tasked with developing a plan to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Gather survey tool needs on the campus
  • Map these against current offerings (i.e. Qualtrics, RedCap) and potential survey tools (e.g. SurveyMonkey, QuestionPro)
  • Access the impact of possibly migrating away from Qualtrics
  • Recommend a sustainable funding model for support a survey tool such as Qualtrics

We will continue to provide more updates to collect your feedback on this topic and highlight our progress.

Please review the Qualtrics service page for more information on features, frequently asked questions, and support options.
