Pharmacy Network Modernization Project: A Milestone for UIC Technology Solutions
Introduction
In less than a year, Technology Solutions has successfully completed a transformative upgrade of the entire network infrastructure at the UIC College of Pharmacy, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to modernize and future-proof the university’s technology landscape.
This monumental project, driven by a shared commitment to innovation and collaboration, brings Pharmacy to the forefront of campus network performance—delivering faster speeds, greater coverage, and scalable solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, researchers, and staff.
Key Accomplishments
- 2103 hours of technical effort were dedicated to the project, reflecting the scope and complexity of the work.
- 273 wireless access points were deployed, including 147 brand-new installations and 126 upgrades, boosting wireless performance from 1 gigabit to 5 gigabit speeds across the entire building.
- 7 new network switches and 10 chassis were installed to support enhanced wired and wireless connectivity throughout the facility.
- 99 outdated switches were decommissioned, streamlining the infrastructure and improving efficiency.
- Complete data rack redesign and consolidation in 8 network closets enables easier maintenance and future expansion.
- New electrical distribution panel and expanded dedicated power infrastructure were installed to support high-performance hardware and ensure long-term reliability.
