Applications Being Accepted for Guild Program

Are you a creative woman who cares to make a difference in society? How would you like to learn to build an app with no previous experience?

Break Through Tech Chicago (the Melinda Gates-funded program in the UIC computer science department that aims to increase gender diversity in the tech world) has opened applications for its FREE week-long Guild Program for January 4-10 2021, which also comes with a $250 stipend for student participation.

In five days, Guild will teach you about technology in a way that matters. Guild identifies a problem that is important to people in Chicago — food insecurity — and works together to brainstorm improvements for food banks, the families who need them, and communities across the city. The Guild team then evaluates how those solutions can be achieved with technology and brings plans to life using a program called App Lab, which makes building an app accessible even to beginners.

Who can apply?

Guild is open to women who are freshmen and sophomores at UIC (no matter your major) and women who are students in Chicago-area community colleges.

If you are curious about technology and coding, and if you want to join a supportive community of women who are also exploring tech, Guild may be for you!
