A Message from the CIO
I am pleased to share a summary of the exciting achievements and forward-looking initiatives that Technology Solutions worked on in 2024 to propel us toward innovation and excellence in IT at the University of Illinois Chicago. Our commitment to enhancing the digital landscape at UIC has been unwavering.
Over the past year, we have made significant strides in modernizing our infrastructure, improving our services and capabilities, and fostering a culture of innovation. These efforts are not just about technology; they are about creating an environment where our students, instructors, and staff can thrive.
In 2024, we successfully replaced or installed new network devices and laid miles of fiber optic and copper cabling to fortify our technology infrastructure. Our Advanced Cyber Infrastructure for Education and Research (ACER) team launched a new state-of–the-art shared high-performance computing (HPC) cluster and expanded access to resources for all faculty and students involved in research.
We deployed new AI tools, including a pilot of an enterprise license for Grammarly, focused on meeting our students where they are and providing support for writing skills—anywhere, anytime. We continue to work with campus and system partners to enhance data services, improve identity and access management systems, safeguard our systems and data, and build our capacity to make our content and technology accessible.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the future of IT at UIC and remain committed to continuing our efforts to innovate and improve our services for students, instructors, and staff.
