Join Project Raga: Help Us Build Better Accessibility Testing
Introduction
UIC’s Accessibility Engineering team is launching a user-research effort focused on the people who understand accessibility best—professionals who rely on screen readers every day.
Automated testing can’t capture lived experience. Even perfectly coded interfaces can create barriers that only native assistive-technology users can detect. Project Raga aims to close this gap by integrating structured manual testing directly into Equalify’s automated reports.
We are seeking additional screen-reader users to participate.
Why your participation matters
- Automated testing provides an incomplete picture.
- Usability issues persist even when standards are met.
- Only native AT users can show how real interactions succeed—or break
What Project Raga is doing
UIC’s accessibility engineering team is building a unified workflow that brings manual testing results directly into Equalify’s automated reports. The goal is to create a clearer, more actionable view of user impact.
Project Raga will:
- Standardize how testers document issues and regressions.
- Combine automated and manual data into one comprehensive audit.
- Capture real behaviors from disabled users interacting with AT.
- Identify and address user-hostile patterns early.
